Women’s Hockey match reports for round three.
Furies 1 lost to Legs XI 4.
Both teams came out strong at the start of the match, with two unconverted short corners to Furies.
Legs’ attack replied with a strong lead by Sue Himbeck and a near shot at goal by Bronte Ahchee.
Sue Himbeck followed with a hard hit from the side of the D, putting Legs into an early lead.
Strong play by Furies’ defenders Jacquie Tonkin and Kodi Abel provided a chance for Furies when Renee Dowsett earned a short corner.
The corner was converted by her mum and fill in player, Sonya Dowsett.
Nicole Fyfe put Legs in the advantage after the main break when she scored just minutes into the second half.
An unlucky hit connected with Tanya Patterson’s ankle, leaving her unable to continue with the match.
A lovely combination by Natasha Woodhouse and Nicole Fyfe resulted in a third goal for Legs.
This was closely followed with another goal by Sue Himbeck, brought the full time score to 4-1 for Legs.

Condingup 2 defeated Bacchus 1.
Condy started with great team passing, putting a lot of pressure on Bacchus’ defense.
Bacchus finally got the ball into their attack and were able to convert a goal with Gail Anderson off a long corner.
Merle Leiper played lovely hockey on the wing, sending some lovely crosses that her team were unable to convert.
Merle took matters into her own hands and approached the net herself, equalizing for Condy.
Both teams worked hard with lots of centre play and no team outplaying the other.
Condy finally edged their way into their attacking circle, earning several short corners before AJ Leiper finally converted the winning goal.
Sue Johnson, ever reliable on the line, stopped a sure goal.
In an exciting end, Bacchus pushed their way into their attacking circle, but were unlucky not to convert from several short corners.

Strikers 2 defeated Munglinup 0
Strikers started off strongly but Mungy fought back well with good clearing from their defense.
An early short corner for Strikers went unconverted, however strong efforts from Mungy’s defenders weren’t strong enough to keep out a great shot at goal from Nia Goodhand.
Consistent play from the Tonkin girls gave Mungy some forward drive. Strikers’ players, Carol Morris and Rochelle Baker worked well with their team to create many scoring opportunities for Strikers.
Another goal for Carol Morris put the half time score at 2-0.
Lead by Jodie Brownley, Strikers continued to attack heavily in the second half, with many scoring chances, however Mungy’s defenders didn’t allow any more goals to be scored.

Mallee 4 defeated Emus 1.
Mallee began the game at the bottom of the ladder and had a lot of hard work to do. I
n drizzly conditions, an early flick was awarded to Emus, which was easily converted by Fiona Power in her first match back from surgery.
Emus were delighted with this early goal, but were soon bought back to Earth by Mallee’s domination in the forward line.
The legendary Kerry Longbottom scored a tricky goal, and soon found herself being wrestled to the ground by Cath Brown in goals, who always likes to make her presence felt in the D.
Undeterred, Longbottom scored again, but this time, she kept her distance by staying at the top of the scoring circle to hit a beautiful ball into the net.
The second half was again dominated by Mallee, who kept Emus defenders Angela Jeitz and Antonia Ravencroft very busy.
Renae Guest-Spencer was the hungry one this time, with a hard hit from the top of the D that just managed to sneak through.
The next goal was kicked from a ball which went blocked by Angela Jeitz, but right onto the stick of Renae Guest-Spencer, who pushed the ball past Brown, again into the back of the net. T
he final score was 4-1 to Mallee, saving them from the bottom of the ladder for now.
