ART lovers in Esperance will once again have the opportunity to take advantage of expert advice from contemporary artist, Cynthia Ellis, when she takes up a residence at the Cannery Arts Centre this month.

The artist in residency program is an ongoing initiative to bring artists from across Australia to Esperance to conduct workshops and to exhibit their artwork.

Ms Ellis has previously taken on an artist in residence at the Cannery in 1999, and said the experience was extremely enjoyable.

“Those I met during this time enriched my experiences – the students’ enthusiasm and commitment added greatly to the activity,” she said.

“I look forward to meeting previous and new participants.”

Ms Ellis will be conducting a series of workshops, including oil painting, colour theory, a children’s sand painting workshop, and a V monologues workshop.

The four week oil painting workshop is set to be a highlight for all skill levels of painters, where participants can learn and share techniques in a relaxed studio atmosphere.

The oil painting workshops will run for three hours a week each Wednesday evening from June 18 onwards.

Cannery Arts Centre coordinator, Elaine Morcombe, said she was looking forward to Ms Ellis’ visit.

“Cynthia is one of Perth’s most exciting contemporary conceptual painters. She will be delivering a full program of varied adult painting workshops which are known to be technical, informative and liberating – where the sharing of ideas forms a critical part of the art making process.

Ms Morcombe also said that Ms Ellis brings a unique female perspective to her paintings and raises awareness of female artists in society.

Full workshop details and more information can be obtained by contacting the Cannery Arts Centre on 9071 3599.
